Will Nissan Dealers NJ Go Green, Too?

The trend for green dealerships has already started in California, but will Nissan dealers NJ go green soon, too?

In Santa Rosa, construction just began on a Nissan dealer that strives to receive the Gold LEED Certification. It’s the first auto dealer along the West Coast to try to accomplish this goal.

Jim Bone, Lawrence Amaturo and Huxley Richardson are partners in the dealership. The Nissan car company recently gave them the approval they needed to launch the project to “go green.” The project should take about one year to complete.

According to Jim Bone, the Nissan dealer of Santa Rosa stands to have a significant increase in the market share due to the automaker’s fuel-efficient options. The switch to green also reflects the automaker’s plan to release a totally electric car for the 2010 model year. He also said the three partners had plans to convert the dealership “right from the beginning.”

Two of the buildings have already been demolished. The debris was separated into dumpsters so each piece could be recycled. The new building is going to be about 32,000 square feet. That’s about twice the size of the original building. Once that is completed in about eight months, the second building will be torn down.

One of the main green features includes the power source for the facility. Instead of the $7,000 electricity bill, the new facility is going to have natural light from skylights with a more efficient heating and cooling system. In addition, the roof will have solar capabilities that will produce about 75 percent of the electricity needed to run the business.

In addition to that, the new strategy helps reduce carbon emissions and change driving behaviors.

Friends Don’t Let Friends Text and Drive

How to Convert a Gas-Powered Car

paIf you’re like me, you’d love to have an electric car that doesn’t use any fuel. Of course, this technology is a couple years away from being mass-produced in North America. But it’s still something to think about. Some people have figured out how to convert your current gasoline-powered car into an electric car, though. Although I haven’t tested the process and have no idea if it even works, here is how they do it. Maybe if you know something about cars and engineering, you can do this yourself at home.

The main idea behind the conversion is to take out the gasoline-powered motor and replace it with an electric one. The electric motor still needs the transmission, but you’ll need to keep it detached from the electric motor. Keep the transmission where it is.

The next thing to consider is the welding work. You’ll need to create a cradle for the new electric motor so it fits nicely and snugly under the hood. This also allows you to switch out the motors with less hassle.

Other than those two steps, there isn’t a lot to converting your car if you know what you’re doing. You can also find cars that don’t have engines in them.
